If you’re planning a long distance move that will take you to another state or what is termed an interstate move, you’ll need more time to plan than if you’re moving a short distance. Because there are so many steps involved in planning and executing a long distance move, you’ll need more time.
With a local move, at least 8 weeks prior to your move is recommended to begin the packing process but for a long distance move, 12-16 weeks is ideal, particularly if you’re moving to a new state or across an international border. The more complicated your move, the more time you’ll need.
